Here is a rough drafts for the storyboard. I found it is very hard to connect all of the vignettes together. This is a test for me to arrange me thoughts to describe the connection between them.

The Second Vignette Idea

For this vignette idea, I want to describe my feeling to subconsciousness. When I thought about con/unconsciousness for the first idea, I realized this significant element. Our mind is composed by the conscious mind, the subconscious mind, and the unconscious mind these three different but connecting systems. I remember that the great psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud said the three levels of mind is like an iceberg. The top of iceberg which above the water, the part that submerge below the water but we still can see and the part to deep under the water that we cannot imagine. Subconscious is like a grey zone, between the consciousness and unconsciousness.

Subconscious mind is very mysterious and complicated. It is hard to describe what is subconsciousness, but I can imagine mine. Some of hints have appear in my dream, instinct, etc. 

Here are some ideas.

The First Vignette Idea

The topic for this and next semester is Animating the Con/Unconscious. This is definitely a big challenge. First of all, we are facing an interesting and tricky question: what is con/unconsciousness? From the academic point if view, we can say consciousness is our minds allow us to report in mental stated from gathered information; it is the brain’s perception of internal and external appearances, and unconsciousness is like a great store of people’s experience, which is composed of many forgotten desires.

It is not an easy question, however, animating the con/unconscious is another circumstance. I believe the personal experience and feeling are more suitable to represent this topic. It can be more lively and sincere to talk about something from myself. I just think to myself, finally, it is the time. 

This is my feeling right now.

Here is a picture that flash upon my mind. Simple but clear. Some unconscious objects like a heart and a fish appear in the image. Generally, the object on the plate is confirmed automatically to food or edible stuff. But here I use a heart, which is a kind of symbol of love. Also a living tiny fish is in tumbler, which is used to drink. The functions and qualities of those objects are changed into other ideology. The interesting thing is the whole image is quite naturally and I can also imagine a sequence for it.   

That is a kind of combination of my consciousness with unconsciousness. Then more pictures appear in my mind. That feeling is more like searching information from the deconstruction of my consciousness and unconsciousness. Those broken elements integrate and reproduce into new messages.

So I start to collect the elements that I like. For example, the plant, food, fish, ukulele and clock. All those elements have a common point that they all have some kinds of connection with the “heart”, which I have shown in the sketch above.

For now, those images are more like a sort of the stream of consciousness in my mind.
